This paper examines how Croatia has managed its complex and difficult tourism heritage through the wars and changing political and economic ideologies of the Yugoslav succession from 1990–5. It looks
at how far the industry is becoming environmentally and economically sustainable and at possible moves to diversify from coastal tourism based on sun, sea and sand to cultural and activity tourism in inland
areas.
