Prerequisites for a New European Language Policy

In light of the parlous state of many of the minority languages within the European Union, there are numerous policy imperatives and implications that need to be urgently addressed in relation to the further
development of European language policy. This paper outlines briefly what these might involve by highlighting key principles, and discussing these principally from a contact linguistics perspective.
