The gymnasium is a new type of school, in the Polish system since 1999. The environmental content at this stage of education is taught mainly in the form of the so-called interdisciplinary educational track. The method of implementing the environmental education track, the involvement of subject teaching in education for the environment and the preparation of gymnasium teachers for fulfilling thenewtasks are presented in this paper. So far, a positive link has been claimed between the interdisciplinary model of integration of teaching content, the computer-assisted learning method, the project method and the level of environmental awareness of gymnasium pupils. The need for wider studies on the effectiveness of all possible methods of implementing the interdisciplinary tracks of environmental education was identified: this should involve the multidisciplinary and single-subject model, and the methodological solutions used in the teaching process. It also shows the need for the dissemination of the acquired results, enabling the choice of the most effective educational solutions.
