Economic and Monetary Union: Issues Relating to Education for Citizenship
|
Ian Davies

|
This paper explores the debates surrounding the possible development of economic and monetary union (EMU) within the European Union. It does so in an effort to raise issues about possible ways to educate
about and for citizenship. An example of a teaching approach used with undergraduate students in a UK university department of educational studies is described and then discussed. The method of teaching
is perceived positively, although tentatively, and the conclusions are very provisional. Issues are discussed including the nature and level of understanding and skills which could potentially be achieved
by students in relation to citizenship education.
